What is uss scamp?

USS Scamp (SS-277) was a Gato-class submarine of the United States Navy. She was built by the Electric Boat Company in Groton, Connecticut, and commissioned in February 1944. During World War II, Scamp completed six war patrols in the Pacific Ocean, sinking 13 enemy vessels, including several Japanese cargo ships and a cruiser. Scamp was also responsible for rescuing 73 Allied prisoners of war from a Japanese transport ship. After the war, Scamp was decommissioned and sold for scrap in 1959. Two other submarines in the US Navy have carried the name USS Scamp since then, but neither is in active service.
